Ironworker's family sues over deadly construction incident in Will County
A tragic incident occurred earlier this month when a father from the southwest suburbs passed away after being struck by a piece of steel at a job site near the Joliet and Plainfield border. Now, his son is taking legal action against the construction companies involved, advocating for enhanced safety protocols. Tom Kircher was a dedicated ironworker, and his son Alex has taken to preserving his memory by using his father's Jeep and tools. Reflecting on his father's commitment to safety on job sites, Alex emphasized how the accident at The Boulevard Place construction site has deeply impacted him. Illinois state Rep. Harry Benton, a longtime friend of Tom, stressed the importance of workplace safety advocacy, particularly in light of this tragic incident. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident, while Alex has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the companies linked to the construction project. The case is set for April, as the involved companies have not yet provided any public statements.
