Investigation underway into multi-vehicle accident on Louisiana Route 23
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police are investigating a car accident involving a tanker truck on Highway 23 in the Oakville/Cedar Grove area. The tanker truck's tank was punctured during the crash, leading to a spill that has affected all lanes of the highway. Traffic is flowing in both directions on the northbound side. Both drivers involved sustained moderate to minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Authorities urge drivers to be cautious and anticipate delays in the area as the investigation continues and crews work to clean up the spill. The closure of the highway has prompted the Plaquemines Parish School Board to redirect all southbound buses, with Belle Chasse Middle School students being taken to Belle Chasse High School. Parent pickups can be made at that location, with absences being excused. Students living south of the incident should return home. Belles Chasse High School, Belles Chasse Primary School, and Belles Chasse Elementary School will operate on a normal schedule, but bus delays may occur. Parents are encouraged to transport their children if possible, with all absences related to this incident excused.
