Investigation underway in Brookfield after crash involving officer's shooting

A shooting involving a suspect who fired at police officers in Brookfield is being investigated after a crash late Saturday night. According to the City of Brookfield Police Department, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash on Barker Road, north of North Avenue, around 10:31 p.m. on Saturday, January 31. A suspect fled the scene on foot and fired shots at officers while being pursued. An officer returned fire, injuring the 31-year-old suspect who was taken to a hospital. The officer involved, a 24-year-old with three years of experience, has been placed on administrative leave as per department policy. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team, led by the Milwaukee Police Department, is conducting the investigation. Initial findings suggest the officers acted appropriately. The investigation is ongoing.
