Investigation ongoing into deadly crash on Maybank Highway
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is currently looking into a tragic accident that occurred on Friday evening on Maybank Highway, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The incident took place just after 7 p.m. when a vehicle traveling towards Johns Island struck a pedestrian on the roadway near Stefan Drive. The pedestrian, identified as Robert Leventhal, 74, from Mount Pleasant, was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries the following day. The Traffic Services Unit and Forensic Services Unit of the sheriff's office are actively investigating the collision. Anyone with information about the accident is urged to reach out to the agency at 843-202-1700. During the initial investigation, the road was closed for a few hours on Friday night.
