Investigation into Car Crash at Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters in NYC as Suspected Hate Crime
A hate crime investigation has been initiated by the police after a vehicle crashed into the New York City global headquarters of the Chabad Lubavitch movement on Wednesday night. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the accident, which took place in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn around 8:46 p.m. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that officers stationed at the building heard a disturbance in the main entrance, leading them to witness a vehicle colliding with the rear door, reversing, and hitting it again. The driver was immediately arrested following this incident. The organization impacted, Chabad-Lubavitch, is an Orthodox Jewish Hasidic group, well-known for its New York City building that attracts numerous visitors annually. The Mayor expressed concern and disapproval of the act, emphasizing that there is no place for antisemitism or violence against Jewish individuals in the city. The Anti-Defamation League and law enforcement agencies are deeply disturbed by the incident, pledging to investigate it as a hate crime. Enhanced security measures have also been implemented at worship places citywide following the occurrence.
