Intersection of Barton Chapel, Glenn Hills Dr. closed due to deadly crash; victim identified
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - Richmond County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a fatal crash Wednesday morning. It happened about 6:35 on Barton Chapel Road at Glen Hills Drive. The preliminary investigation indicated a gray Mitsubishi Mirage was traveling east on Barton Chapel Road and a black Chevrolet Impala was traveling west on Barton Chapel Road. The Mirage traveled into the westbound lane while negotiating a curve and it struck the front of the Impala. The driver of the Mitsubishi Mirage was pronounced deceased by the Coroner’s Office. The victim has been identified as 72-year-old Michael Lopez of Augusta. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available. Photojournalist: Dania Alawir
