Information on suspect who drove car into Chabad headquarters

We are uncovering more details about Dan Sohail, who is accused of driving his car into the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime. The event unfolded at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights just before 9 p.m. on January 28. Police officers stationed outside the building heard a disturbance and swiftly intervened as they observed a driver repeatedly hitting the rear door of the building with his Honda sedan. Sohail, the 36-year-old suspect, was eventually arrested after ramming the building five times. No explosives were discovered in his vehicle, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. Sohail is facing a range of hate crime charges. It has been revealed that he has no prior criminal record in New York City and was last known to live in Carteret, New Jersey. Sohail has been seen interacting with individuals at Chabad establishments previously, with footage confirming his presence at the synagogue days before the incident. Additionally, it has emerged that Sohail had previously attempted to access Chabad facilities in New Jersey, but was unsuccessful. Following a welfare check in South Brunswick where he expressed an interest in converting and disclosed his homelessness, Sohail was referred to a mental health counselor. Rabbi Mendy Carlebach, who encountered Sohail's behavior in New Jersey, mentioned that the incident served as a reminder for everyone to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
