Indoor hold at Lannon Elementary lifted after nearby arrest
UPDATE 5/21/26 AT 3:50PM - The hold at Lannon Elementary is no longer in place and students have been dismissed following a nearby arrest. According to Waukesha County Sheriff's officials, a 40-year-old man with an active warrant was reportedly trespassing inside a home on Lannon Road and refused commands to leave. Once the Waukesha County Tactical Enforcement Unit arrived, the man was taken into custody. The school was placed on hold due to its proximity to the home. The following is an earlier version of this story: LANNON, Wis. -- Students at Lannon Elementary in the Hamilton School District are being held indoors because of police activity nearby the school. In a letter to families obtained by 620 WTMJ, parents were made aware of a "law enforcement sitaution" happening off of school property on May 21. Waukesha County dispatch tells 620 WTMJ that they recommended to school leaders to keep students indoors out of an abundance of caution. Dear Lannon Families, We want to make you aware of a situation happening near Lannon Elementary School. We are currently in a hold and we are keeping students indoors. This is in response to a law enforcement situation happening off of school property. All students and staff are safe. A hold means that instruction continues as normal inside school. Students will remain inside the building until we are given the all clear from deputies. This is a directive from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. While classroom learning continues as normal, there is a heavy police presence in the Village of Lannon. Deputies are asking parents not to try to come to school right now, as you will not be allowed beyond law enforcement boundaries. Please know we are in close communication with Waukesha Sheriff's Deputies and we appreciate their quick and proactive response. Again, all students and staff are safe. We will inform you as soon as the situation is safely resolved. Sincerely,Brian Balfany This is a developing story, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
