Impaired Lexus driver arrested after Clayton man dies in I-40 box truck crash near Garner, troopers say
GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — Troopers have charged the driver involved in a fatal crash with a box truck earlier this week on Interstate 40 in Wake County. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers charged Arnel Michael Christian, 27, of Clayton, with felony death by motor vehicle in an early Sunday morning crash on I-40 East near Jones Sausage Road. Troopers said the crash occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, a box truck and a Lexus sedan collided on the highway. In their investigation, troopers said that the box truck was on the right shoulder of I-40 East with a flat tire when a Lexus, operated by Christian, went off the highway and rear-ended the box truck. Troopers said Christian was hospitalized with serious injuries and his passenger, 22-year-old Tynell Streeter Jr. of Clayton, died in the crash. Officers said speed and impairment by the driver were factors in the crash. The occupant of the box truck was also hospitalized with minor injuries, according to troopers. The investigation remains ongoing. Christian remains in custody with Wake County under a $30,000 bond. Court records go on to say that he is scheduled in court on Monday afternoon.
