Illinois State Police investigate fatal crash involving trooper, pedestrian
Illinois State Police special agents are investigating a Sangamon County traffic crash involving a state trooper in which a pedestrian died. The trooper was driving south on South Sixth Street in Springfield about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. As the trooper was approaching a green light at Linton Street, they struck a pedestrian who apparently was bent down in the road, according to the state police Division of Internal Investigation. The trooper provided emergency aid until an ambulance arrived and took the pedestrian to a hospital, where they later died, according to a police report. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities said no other information was being made available at the time. Findings will be submitted to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney's Office, according to the report.
