IDENTIFIED: 90-year-old who died in crash was a long-time volunteer in Tulare County
TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The 90-year-old man who was killed in a crash between Springville and Porterville early Monday morning was a long-time volunteer with the Tulare County Sheriff's Office, officials confirmed. The sheriff's office confirmed that the man killed in the crash was Jack Terrell. The statement added that his wife, Lucinda Terrell, was the woman injured in the same crash. "Jack [Terell] and Cindy have served as VIPs in the Mountain communities since 2005," a statement by the sheriff's office reads. "They also served on the Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Team in the past with their two chocolate-colored Labradors." Their time as volunteers went above and beyond. In 2023, Sheriff Boudreaux named Jack Volunteer of the Year; the following year, his wife, Lucinda, received the same award. The couple was driving west on Highway 190 at around 7:30 a.m. when a GMC travelling in the opposite direction veered into their lane. According to CHP, the two crashed head-on, killing Terrell and badly injuring his wife. The driver of the GMC received minor injuries. Sheriff Boudreaux and the men and women of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office offer their "deepest sympathies and pray for Cindy’s recovery," who they say is currently in critical, but stable condition.
