The crash, involving a tractor-trailer and two other vehicles, occurred around 3:20 p.m., causing the tractor-trailer and one vehicle to overturn. Three people from one of the vehicles were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, with no information available on their conditions at the time. By 4 p.m., two left lanes on I-91 southbound before Exit 4 in Springfield were shut down, causing delays as emergency response teams managed the scene.
