I-84 East in Vernon closed after person killed in fiery tractor-trailer crash, police say

VERNON — The eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 have fully reopened Thursday after a fatal crash and vehicle fire involving two tractor-trailers that occurred late Wednesday, officials say. Connecticut State Police said one driver was confirmed to have died. One of the tractor-trailers was parked on the shoulder when it was struck by the second tractor-trailer, state police said. The crash resulted in the second vehicle bursting into flames, the state police public information office said in an email. State police said the crash was reported at 11:16 p.m. The identification of the driver who died is pending through the medical examiner's office, state police said. The eastbound lanes were shut down early Thursday. State police said earlier that the highway was expected to remain closed for "an extended period of time" for cleanup and the ongoing investigation. Shortly before 11 a,m. Thursday state police said the crash had been cleared.
