I-79 Northbound Section Shut for Accident: PennDOT
Two sections of Interstate 79 were closed on Thursday by PennDOT due to crashes in Erie and Mercer Counties. The first closure was on I-79 northbound near Exit 174 in McKean Township due to a multi-vehicle crash, but the roadway has since reopened. The second closure was on both north and southbound lanes in Mercer County from the Interstate 80 interchange to Exit 130 (Route 358, Greenville/Sandy Lake). In Erie County, a tractor-trailer and three cars were involved in the crash, causing a brief closure for cleanup. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Currently, speed limits on NWPA interstates remain reduced to 45 mph, and PennDOT advises against unnecessary travel, especially between Erie and Mercer County.
