I-275 shut down near downtown Knoxville after tractor-trailer hits overhead sign

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Interstate 275 was shut down near downtown Knoxville on Friday after a tractor-trailer struck an overhead sign, causing debris to be spread across the roadway. Both directions of I-275 between Baxter Avenue and Heiskell Avenue had been closed following the incident. Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson Mark Nagi said that lanes of traffic on both sides had reopened around 5:30 p.m. Traffic was being diverted onto Oldham Avenue and Woodland Avenue. Drivers should use I-40 or I-640 to avoid the area. TDOT crews and HELP operators are working to clear the southbound lanes.
