Howard County police officer injured in crash on US Route 29 in Columbia
Howard County police told WBAL-TV 11 News that an officer was injured in a crash Thursday afternoon.Check our LIVE traffic map and cameras in the WBAL-TV 11 News appSKY 11 video shows an SUV crash that closed several lanes on U.S. Route 29 south in Columbia near Maryland Route 175.A spokeswoman for Howard County police said an officer in an unmarked vehicle was driving and lost control while trying to avoid another car that switched into its lane.Sherry Llewellyn, with Howard County police, said the police vehicle rolled over as a result of the crash.The driver was taken to Shock Trauma for precautionary measures but has since been released.Llewellyn said the officer was not attempting to stop or pursue any vehicle, and the car's emergency lights were not on.
