Houston METRO bus pushed off overpass onto Highway 288 in Midtown crash

Several individuals were injured following an incident on Saturday where a Houston METRO bus fell off an overpass in the Midtown area. METRO police reported that the bus was in a collision with another vehicle while crossing the McGowen Street overpass above Highways 59 and 288. Emergency services responded to the crash just before 3 p.m. Reports indicate that the bus was rear-ended by the other vehicle, causing it to plunge off the overpass and onto the southbound side of Highway 59. A minimum of 14 people sustained injuries, with one person from the rear-ending vehicle reportedly in critical condition, while the rest suffered minor-to-moderate injuries. Both the bus driver and around 12 passengers were evacuated from the bus, with the driver requiring assistance due to a leg being trapped after the accident. The identification of those involved has not been released, and the circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear. Authorities anticipate employing machinery to lower the bus from its current position off the overpass. The affected part of the highway has been closed off, and the reopening is expected to take several hours.
