Historic Muni streetcar involved in collision with fire truck on SF Embarcadero
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A historic Muni streetcar was involved in a collision along the San Francisco Embarcadero Monday. Citizen video of the scene appeared to show that the streetcar had collided with a fire engine. The San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency reported that the F Market line was delayed in the area of Embarcadero and Bay due to a "Muni-involved collision." Muni was arranging bus shuttles to support F Line service between the SF Ferry Building and the Jones/Beach stop in both directions. There was no immediate word on whether anyone was injured or what caused the crash. According to San Francisco Fire Department Capt. Jonathan Baxter, the crash occurred just before noon as the fire engine was pulling away from a nearby medical emergency. There was only one person aboard the fire engine at the time, and they were not injured. No one aboard the streetcar was injured either. It's estimated that the damage to the fire engine will cost thousands to repair. The streetcar involved in the crash was a Pacific Electric car that was built in 1948 and was originally part of the "Big Red Car" transit network that served Southern California. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to fire officials.
