Highway 169 in Owasso closed due to deadly semi accident
A tragic multi-vehicle accident, which included an 18-wheeler, led to the closure of Highway 169 southbound in Owasso for several hours after the incident took place at 7:30 a.m. on Monday. The Owasso police shared that the driver of the semi-truck tried to stop as traffic was congested from another collision on 86th Street, but couldn't prevent the crash. A vehicle caught fire upon impact, trapping its driver inside. Lt. Nick Boatman from Owasso Police stated that it seemed the semi-truck rear-ended the other vehicles due to the substantial damage observed. The investigation continues as authorities collect witness accounts and information from all vehicles involved. Tragically, one person died in the accident, one was hospitalized, and another sustained injuries. Witnesses reported that the individual who died was stuck in their car following the collision. Boatman mentioned that the flames began immediately after the truck hit the vehicles, preventing the driver from escaping. The police are actively working on gathering evidence to bring clarity to the situation.
