Highway 14 victims identified after fatal crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The victims in the Highway 14 crash that killed two people on Monday evening have been identified. California Highway Patrol identified the two people killed as Carolyn Darnell Squires, 83, and Roland James Squires, 85, both of California City. Highway Patrol responded to the crash and said that a man, later identified as Roland James Squires was driving a gray Toyota Corolla on Highway 58 to the 167 Exit off-ramp. At the same time, a white Buick Encore was traveling southbound on Highway 14, approaching Highway 68, near 67. Roland James Squires crossed the southbound lane and attempted to merge onto Highway 14 northbound, in front of the Buick. When he tried to merge, the Buick struck the left side of Toyota Corolla on April 13, at 5:08 p.m. Both Carolyn Darnell Squires, who was sitting in the passenger seat, and Ronald James Squires were pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries she sustained from the crash. The driver of the Buick was taken to the hospital for treatment.
