High school football player dies following weekend diving accident at Stinson Beach
(KRON) -- An East Bay high school football player was seriously injured after he dove into the ocean at Stinson Beach last weekend. Unfortunately, Amin Noroozi died on Thursday, KRON4 has confirmed. He was 17. Noroozi was a varsity football player at Acalanes High School in Lafayette. According to a family friend, he died at 3:30 p.m., although the specific cause of death remains unknown. The teenager developed a fever that resulted in his body shutting down at the hospital. The family friend tells KRON4 that Noroozi was "one in a million" and wishes everyone knew a person like him. The diving accident occurred after Noroozi arrived at the beach with his friends. He ran across the sand, dove into the ocean and apparently struck a sandbar in shallow water. The football player was then airlifted to a hospital where he underwent surgery for spinal cord injuries. A GoFundMe was set up for Noroozi earlier in the week to help with the teenager's recovery efforts. It has since raised more than $147,000. KRON4 reached out to Acalanes High School's principal and football coach for comment. We are waiting for a response. There is no update at this time about community vigils for Noroozi. KRON4's Amy Larson and Rob Nesbitt contributed to this report. This story will be updated.
