Fatal I-17 crash caused by wrong-way driver
Early Wednesday morning in Phoenix, a tragic wrong-way crash on Interstate 17 near 7th Avenue resulted in the death of a woman. The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported that the woman was driving in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a pickup truck, leading to her death at the scene. The male driver of the pickup truck suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The southbound lanes of I-17 are currently closed with an expected reopening time of 7 a.m., according to DPS. It is advised for drivers to avoid the affected area if possible. The woman's identity has not been disclosed, and it is uncertain if impairment played a role in the incident.
