Hearing Thursday for driver in fatal motorcycle crash
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- A man that killed a motorcyclist with his pickup truck while driving high in rural Lincoln County will have a hearing Thursday. Jerry Wallenstein, 68, was driving his Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on U.S. Hwy 18 about five miles south of Lennox in July of 2024. That’s when Wallenstein’s truck collided with a motorcycle while entering the left turning lane, attempting to turn north on 466th Avenue. Jerry Shafer, 60, who was on the motorcycle, died at the scene. Wallenstein was found to be under the influence of marijuana and another unnamed drug, the Lincoln County state’s attorney said in July 2024. He was charged with vehicular homicide, numerous DUI charges and reckless driving. On Thursday, court records show a change of plea. KELOLAND News will be inside the courtroom for Wallenstein's hearing Thursday morning. This is a developing story.
