Giraffe dies tragically at zoo.

Kiko, the first giraffe born at Greenville Zoo in South Carolina in 2012 and later transferred to Toronto Zoo in Canada, tragically passed away due to an accident while being given access to a new area of his habitat. Despite immediate efforts to help him, Kiko's anatomy as a Masai giraffe led to fatal injuries. An investigation has been launched at Toronto Zoo, and the zoo is committed to sharing any findings to prevent similar incidents in the future. Kiko, who had been receiving special care for a hoof/foot injury, had a routine that had been done safely many times before. The loss is deeply felt by the Wildlife Care team. Masai giraffes, an endangered species, have an estimated population of 43,000 in the wild. Kiko, who had sired two calves and was expecting a third with female giraffe Mstari, is being remembered as a magnificent animal who touched many hearts.
