Giraffe at zoo dies in tragic incident
A giraffe born at the Greenville Zoo in South Carolina and transferred to the Toronto Zoo in Canada, sadly passed away in a tragic accident. Named Kiko, he was a Masai giraffe known for his delicate head and six-foot neck that allowed for quick movements. The incident occurred when Kiko got caught in a door after being given access to a new area in his habitat. Despite immediate efforts to help him, his injuries proved fatal due to his species' unique anatomy. An investigation is underway at the Toronto Zoo to understand the circumstances better. Kiko, who had been receiving special care for an injury, was a part of the zoo's breeding program and had sired two calves with a third expected soon. The loss of Kiko has deeply affected the zoo's Wildlife Care team, and the zoo is dedicated to learning from this tragedy to prevent similar incidents in the future. Masai giraffes, like Kiko, are considered endangered, with around 43,000 remaining in the wild. The zoo asks for thoughts and support for their team during this difficult time and celebrates the memory of Kiko as a magnificent giraffe who touched many hearts.
