SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Dozens of Savannah residents protested Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Tuesday after a man allegedly hit and killed a local teacher while fleeing from ICE agents. Editor's note: WSAV edited some photos to cover explicit words or symbols. Vasquez-Lopez, 38, was fleeing from ICE officers when he made an illegal U-turn, ran a red light and hit Davis’s car, officials said. Davis died from injuries she sustained in the crash. According to a Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) spokesperson, the crash occurred before 7:45 a.m. Monday on Whitefield Avenue at the Truman Parkway intersection. According to a DHS spokesperson, Vasquez-Lopez is from Guatemala and was issued a final order of removal in 2024, though it’s unclear when or how he entered the U.S. To read more about the protest, attendees and Linda Davis's story, click or tap here.
