Gaines County crash kills 19-year-old, seriously injures four others

GAINES COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash killed one man and seriously injured at least four other people. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a passenger in one of the vehicles, identified as Martin Alexander Gonzales Rangel, 19, of Denver City, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Calvin Sellers. DPS stated that the fatal incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 2055 and FM 2056. Preliminary information from the DPS report states a 2024 GMC Sierra was traveling west on FM 2056 while a 2012 Ford F-150 was traveling north on FM 2055. The driver of the GMC Sierra disregarded the stop sign at the intersection and struck the Ford. The impact, according to the incident report, caused the Ford to roll over. The driver of the GMC was transported to Yoakum County Hospital and was reported to have minor injuries. Another passenger in the GMC was also taken there and listed in serious condition. Two others — a passenger and a driver — were transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock and listed in serious condition. All involved were reported to be wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released at this time.
