Four taken to area hospital after three-car collision near Downtown Peoria
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Four taken to the hospital after a Friday morning collision just north of Downtown Peoria. At 9:22 a.m., there was a three-car collision on Northeast Adams Street just north of the Interstate 74 bridge. One vehicle, a Jeep, was rolled over on its side. Two other SUVs had significant damage as well, said Battalion Chief Steve Rada of the Peoria Fire Department. Firefighters had to cut the person out of the overturned Jeep. That person was taken to an area hospital for what Rada called "minor injuries." Three others were also taken to the hospital, he said. Several bystanders and Ameren crews were already helping people who were injured before firefighters arrived, Rada said. People in the other two vehicles were able to get out on their own. They were not taken by ambulance for treatment, the chief said. Traffic was snarled in Downtown as Peoria police squad cars blocked off Adams Street from Hamilton Boulevard and over the I-74 bridge. It appeared all three vehicles were to be towed away. Deployed airbags were seen in two of the vehicles. The nature of the collision is being investigated by the Peoria Police Department.
