Former Salem-Keizer volleyball coach killed in Hwy 22 crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A former volleyball coach at McNary High School died on Sunday after a single-car crash, Oregon State Police announced. Kellie Scholl, 53, was the volleyball coach at McNary from 2012-2016, according to Salem-Keizer Public Schools. The crash occurred around 11 a.m. near milepost 68 in Linn County. Officials say that Scholl was in the passenger seat when her husband, Curtiss Scholl, was traveling west on the highway and tried to pass another vehicle. "For an unknown reason, the operator lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree," OSP said. Kellie was declared dead at the scene. Curtiss was extricated from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital. Curtiss was also an educator with SKPS, serving as the principal at Sprague High School from 2009 to 2015 before becoming the superintendent of the Sisters School District.
