Fog contributes to 43-vehicle crash on Hwy. 58 near Bakersfield
According to the California Highway Patrol, fog was believed to have played a role in the 43-vehicle pileup on Highway 58 near Bakersfield that led to multiple people being taken to local hospitals. The incident occurred in the morning just east of Towerline Road on Tuesday, prompting a significant emergency response. Nine individuals were brought to different hospitals with varying degrees of injuries. Witnesses described the fog as very thick, with visibility reportedly as low as 50 to 60 feet. Authorities suspect that the weather conditions were a contributing factor in the crash. The affected lanes were shut down for a few hours, but were reopened by noon that day. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
