Florida deputy dies in motorcycle crash during Thanksgiving weekend

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office in Fort Myers, Florida, is deeply saddened by the passing of Corrections Lt. William Garlick, who was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident on November 29. The sheriff's office reported that Garlick's motorcycle was struck by another vehicle making a left turn, resulting in his tragic death. Sheriff Bill Prummell shared his sentiments, expressing the difficulty of losing someone as dedicated and selfless as Garlick, who had served the community with great commitment. Garlick, who began his career at the Charlotte County Jail in 2011, was recognized for his hard work and rose to the rank of lieutenant in 2023 after over 14 years of service. Described as a devoted father, husband, friend, and brother, Garlick leaves behind a lasting legacy of integrity and mentorship. A celebration of his life is scheduled for December 6 at 2 p.m. at the Babcock Field House in Punta Gorda.
