Five Mass. residents ages 7-45 killed in Virginia crash involving bus, SUVs
Three adults and two children killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Virginia early Friday morning were from Massachusetts, according to the Virginia State Police.The crash, which involved several vehicles and a bus, occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. on the southbound side at mile marker 146 in Stafford County, near Quantico. State police said the bus, which was traveling from New York City to Charlotte, failed to slow for traffic and hit a Chevrolet Suburban. The Suburban was forced into an Acura SUV and other vehicles. The Acura later caught fire.Four of the fatalities were in the Acura, state police said. They were a 45-year-old male, a 44-year-old female, a 13-year-old female, and a 7-year-old male, all from Greenfield, Massachusetts. "To the families, friends, and neighbors of those we lost: there are no words that can fully ease the weight of this sudden and unimaginable grief. Please know that you are not walking through this dark time alone. The Greenfield community stands with you, mourning alongside you, and we extend our absolute deepest condolences and prayers," Greenfield Mayor Virginia Desorgher wrote in a statement.The fifth victim, a 25-year-old from Worcester, was in the Suburban that was struck by the bus, state police said.None of those killed was identified by name in the latest statement from the Virginia State Police. Approximately 34 people were on the bus at the time of the crash. A total of 44 patients were taken to area hospitals from the crash. The driver, Jing S. Dong, 48, of New York, was among the injured. State police said the crash remains under investigation but charges are pending.
