Fatality reported in Clinton County crash

CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. – A driver was killed in a Friday morning crash that also injured a deputy chief of the Frankfort Police Department. According to Indiana State Police, the crash happened around 4:50 a.m. Friday on State Road 39 between County Line Road and CR 650 S. This is about five miles south of Frankfort. ISP said the driver of a silver Chevy Malibu was heading south and attempted to pass another vehicle when the Malibu collided head-on with a vehicle heading north. The other driver, later identified as Cesar Munoz, the deputy police chief of the Frankfort Police Department, swerved to avoid the crash but was unable to prevent the collision. He was on duty at the time. The driver of the Malibu died, state police said, and a passenger was taken to an area hospital Munoz was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition. SR 39 was closed in both directions for several hours. The road reopened around 9:50 a.m. Indiana State Police were handling the investigation and crash reconstruction.
