Fatality as Rail Runner train collides with pedestrian.
The New Mexico State Police is investigating a fatal crash that occurred when a pedestrian was hit and killed by a Rail Runner express train on Monday evening. The incident took place near the intersection of Indian School Road NW and 2nd Street NW just before 6 p.m. According to Rail Runner spokesperson Augusta Meyers, witnesses informed first responders that a man tried to cross from the east side of the tracks to the west side and was struck by the southbound train. The train had 37 passengers on board at the time of the incident. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. This situation disrupted both northbound and southbound train services for approximately two hours on Monday evening. Efforts were made to transport over 200 customers from the downtown station to the Montano station in both directions during this time. However, regular train services have since resumed and are expected to operate on a normal schedule on Tuesday.
