Fatal weather-related crash claims woman walking in Lexington
A tragic accident occurred in Lexington, North Carolina, resulting in the death of a woman while she was walking during a "weather-related" crash. The incident took place on Saturday night at the South Main Street and Wilfred Avenue intersection by the railroad overpass. A vehicle travelling south veered off the road due to the weather conditions, went down an embankment, and couldn't be moved immediately because of winter weather. Two young individuals sustained minor injuries in the single-car accident and were taken to the hospital. The next morning, Barbara Hartwell's body was discovered in the wooded area near the crash site. She was identified as the victim who had been walking on the sidewalk when she was struck by the car involved in the crash. Authorities from the Lexington Police Department are collaborating with the district attorney's office to determine potential charges, and no additional details are currently available.
