Fatal semi crash spills detergent on highway
EDINBURG TWP., Ohio (WKBN) -- A man from New York is dead, and Interstate 76 East Bound has reopened from state Route 14 to state Route 225 after a fatal crash involving a semi truck Wednesday night. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it happened just before 6:30 p.m. near milepost 46 in Edinburg Township. OSHP said a semi truck was disabled and parked on the right shoulder of I-76, with its driver inside the sleeper cab, when a pickup truck pulling a trailer drove off the side of the road, striking the semi. The driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old man from Howard Beach, New York, died from his injuries at the scene. His name has not been released. The driver of the semi was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. OSHP confirmed that after the crash, the semi spilled laundry detergent onto the highway. The portion of I-76 was temporarily closed, but has since reopened. OSHP said crews had to unload the semi by hand.
