(OTERO COUNTY, Colo.) — One person has died and another sustained serious injuries after a rollover crash in Otero County over the weekend, according to the La Junta Fire Department. Fire crews were called to the crash involving a Toyota Tundra on Saturday, March 14, just before 5 p.m. on Highway 50 near milepost 386, east of La Junta. Upon arrival, first responders found a truck off the roadway and two victims. According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the driver was identified as a 62-year-old man and was taken to the hospital for serious injuries. The passenger was identified as a 65-year-old woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene. According to CSP, both the man and the woman are from Las Animas. Troopers said before the crash, the truck was heading eastbound on Hwy 50 near milepost 386 when "the Tundra failed to navigate a right curve and drove off the left side of the road into the median." CSP said the truck continued traveling across the westbound lanes and onto the north shoulder before driving up a hill and going airborne. The Tundra hit the ground and rolled once before coming to rest on its wheels. According to the fire department, the Otero County Coroner was contacted, and more information about the deceased will be released at a later time.
