Fatal pedestrian crash probed in Maurice
An investigation is underway regarding a tragic incident that occurred on U.S. 167 near Leblanc Road in Lafayette Parish. The crash, which involved a single vehicle and a pedestrian, resulted in the loss of Ricky Verret, a 37-year-old resident of Maurice. It was reported that Verret was walking along the right shoulder of U.S. 167 when he entered the roadway and was struck by a Jeep Wrangler towing a trailer traveling in the same direction. Verret was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Jeep did not sustain any injuries. Authorities do not suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash, but standard toxicology samples were taken for further analysis. The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing.
