Fatal pedestrian accident caused by runaway garbage truck in East Harlem

A tragic incident occurred in East Harlem when an out-of-control garbage truck caused a chain reaction resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The incident took place near First Avenue at 101st Street early on Tuesday morning. Surveillance footage captured the crash, showing the garbage truck colliding with several vehicles while traveling north along First Avenue. The truck hit a parked Kia Forte at an intersection, causing it to mount the curb and crash into scaffolding outside a NYCHA building at 345 East 101st Street. Sadly, a female pedestrian lost her life at the scene, and three others, including the 47-year-old truck driver and a 50-year-old passenger, sustained minor injuries. Eyewitnesses described the event as loud and shocking, with concern for those involved. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and as of now, no charges have been brought against anyone involved. Classic Recycling, the New Jersey-based company owning the garbage truck, has not responded to inquiries. The Department of Buildings inspected the NYCHA building for structural damage following the collision.
