Fatal LaGuardia crash leads to Roanoke flight cancellations
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) - New York City's LaGuardia Airport is closed until 2:00 p.m. due to a deadly crash, which affects local flights out of Roanoke-Blacksburg airport. An arriving American Airlines flight 4688 from LaGuardia to Roanoke Regional is cancelled. It was scheduled to arrive at 4:33 p.m. A departing Delta flight 53-21 from Roanoke Regional to LaGuardia was also cancelled. It was scheduled to depart at 7:05 a.m. This link is available to check the status of flights. No flights out of Lynchburg Regional Airport are currently affected. Early Monday morning, a deadly plane crash led to a ground stop at LaGuardia Airport. Air officials say an Air Canada flight crashed into a fire truck while landing. The crash killed the pilot and copilot. The firefighter truck was responding to another incident on the tarmac at that time. Four crew members and 72 passengers were on board at the time of the crash. The impact caused major damage to the front of the plane.
