Fatal head-on crash in north Columbus
A man tragically lost his life on Sunday night in North Columbus after a collision and subsequent fire left him trapped in the wreckage. The incident involved two cars, a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis and a 2025 Toyota Camry, on East Cooke Road near Overbrook Drive in Clintonville. While the driver and front-seat passenger of the Camry managed to escape before the vehicle caught fire, the driver of the Mercury, identified as 62-year-old Martin Smith, was unable to get out and was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the Toyota were hospitalized in stable condition. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and are urging anyone with information to contact the Accident Investigation Unit at 1-800-222-8477.
