Fatal golf cart accident claims two lives in Sumter County

Two individuals lost their lives, and three others were wounded after a collision involving a golf cart and an SUV at the junction of County Road 109 and U.S. Highway 27, as per authorities' report. The incident occurred on Friday evening at approximately 9:35 p.m. Troopers explained that the crash transpired when a golf cart heading west on CR-109 failed to halt at a red traffic light upon reaching the intersection. Subsequently, the golf cart moved into the route of a southbound Kia Soul on U.S. 27 and was hit, causing the cart to overturn. The vehicles came to a stop near the southwest corner and west side of the junction. Tragically, the golf cart's driver, a 64-year-old man from Lady Lake, and the passenger, a 58-year-old woman from The Villages, succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Kia Soul, a 23-year-old woman from Eustis, and a 1-year-old child passenger from Leesburg sustained minor injuries and were taken to a medical facility. Meanwhile, a 19-year-old male passenger from Belleview was also in the SUV. The crash is currently being investigated.
