Fatal crash on US 301 in Harnett County involving Tesla and pickup truck.
In Dunn, North Carolina, a man from Benson tragically passed away on his birthday following a head-on collision in Harnett County on Saturday. The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on U.S. 301 near Hodges Chapel Road, located south of Benson near the Johnston County border. The collision involved a green Tesla car traveling south and a red Dodge Ram pickup truck heading north. The driver of the Tesla, a woman from Benson, crossed the center line and crashed into the pickup truck, causing it to flip on its side. Unfortunately, a passenger in the truck, 73-year-old Danny Wood, lost his life in the crash. The truck driver sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, while two children and the Tesla driver also suffered injuries, although non-life-threatening, and were taken to a hospital for medical care. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is planning to analyze data from the Tesla as part of their investigation. As of 3:30 p.m., the road remained closed, and while no charges have been filed yet, the incident is still under investigation.
