Fatal crash on northbound I-805 causes ‘extreme congestion’ in San Diego
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and sedan prompted a full freeway closure on northbound Interstate 805 near Mission Valley Thursday morning, according to California Highway Patrol. The collision was first reported in a Sig Alert shortly before 5 a.m. in the area north of Friars Road and south of Murray Ridge Road. Authorities say preliminary information indicates the motorcyclist was travelling at a high rate of speed prior to crash. No further details on the circumstances leading up the crash were immediately released, including how many people were involved. All lanes northbound lanes on I-8 were temporarily closed, with CHP reporting "extreme congestion" from El Cajon Boulevard to Murray Ridge Road, where traffic was being diverted. In an update at 5:55 a.m., Caltrans confirmed the two right lanes of the freeway have reopened, while the left three remain closed. Motorists are advised to expect delays and consider alternative routes as authorities investigate and work to clean up the scene. CHP suggests drivers utilize Interstate 15 or State Route 163 as alternatives. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
