Fatal crash on New Year's Eve claims two lives in Danville, officials report
Two individuals have died in a New Year's Eve accident in Danville, according to authorities. The incident took place on Main Street near Coburn Hill Road in Danville at approximately 4:47 p.m. The initial investigation indicated that a 2023 Dodge Challenger driven by Derek Cote, 41, of Danville, was heading north on Main Street when it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2016 Nissan Altima driven by Brian Morris Sr, 65, with passenger Brian Morris, 36, both from Fremont. Unfortunately, Morris Sr. and Morris Jr. were trapped in the Nissan and despite efforts to save them, both were pronounced dead at the scene. Cote sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, where officials noted signs of impairment. Multiple agencies assisted in the response, and the investigation is ongoing. Any information related to the incident can be shared with Trooper Eric Torrens at [email protected].
