Fatal crash on Bangerter Highway
A fatal accident involving six vehicles on Bangerter Highway resulted in one person losing their life and multiple others being injured on Sunday evening. The tragic incident, which occurred near 4100 South around 8:06 p.m., involved a Hyundai Tucson that was reportedly swerving at high speed between lanes and collided with several vehicles stopped at a traffic light, as mentioned by Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Eddie Wright. Following the crash, the Hyundai caught fire, but a driver from another vehicle involved in the accident heroically rescued the Hyundai's driver, who was the only person in the vehicle. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, the driver of the Hyundai unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. Emergency crews had to extricate the driver of a Toyota Highlander, another vehicle involved in the crash, as they were trapped inside. This driver was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and authorities are still unsure why the Hyundai hit the stationary vehicles. Due to the accident, all northbound lanes of Bangerter Highway at 4100 South were shut down for several hours as emergency responders and investigators attended to the scene.
