Fatal crash on 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights led to 1 death and 10 injuries
A tragic multi-vehicle crash occurred early Sunday morning in Boyle Heights, resulting in one fatality and the hospitalization of 10 individuals. The accident took place around 4:46 a.m. on the transition ramp from the southbound 5 Freeway to the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway. Emergency crews responded to a car engulfed in flames, prompting the closure of all lanes on that transition road with an estimated reopening time of 11:30 a.m. The cause of the crash remains unknown, with the CHP's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team launching an inquiry. A total of 15 individuals were evaluated at the scene, and 10 were subsequently transported to hospitals for treatment.
