Fatal Crash on 215 Freeway in Riverside Caused by Suspected DUI Driver

Early Wednesday morning, California Highway Patrol officers reported a tragic wrong-way crash on the 215 Freeway in Riverside, potentially caused by a driver under the influence. Around 12:20 a.m., officers received reports of a Mitsubishi Galant traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near Cactus Avenue. Despite narrowly missing other vehicles, the Mitsubishi collided head-on with a Toyota Camry near Central Avenue. The Toyota driver, identified as 32-year-old Raulder Sotelo, tragically passed away at the scene. The 20-year-old Mitsubishi driver from Moreno Valley sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. Police suspect alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the crash and are continuing their investigation. Witnesses are urged to contact CHP Investigator Macias at (951) 324-7210.
