Fatal crash linked to Eastex Freeway closure during New Year's, woman dies
A tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning in Downtown Houston resulting in the closure of the Eastex Freeway due to two separate accidents. The first crash occurred in the northbound lanes of I-59 near the exit to I-10, close to Daikin Park. Emergency responders arrived on the scene around 6:30 a.m., leading to a partial freeway blockage. Shortly after, at about 6:50 a.m., another collision took place when a Honda Accord rear-ended a Nissan Kicks. The Nissan driver exited her vehicle and was standing on the freeway shoulder when a Ford F150 hit the Honda, causing it to strike the woman. Tragically, the Nissan driver did not survive. Those involved in the subsequent crashes were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, except for the Ford driver who was unharmed. As of now, the identities of those involved have not been disclosed, but authorities confirmed that the deceased victim was a 23-year-old woman. Further details on the initial crash are currently unavailable.
