Fatal crash involving tractor trailer leaves 5-year-old, 9-year-old, 1 adult dead in Ohio

Three people, including two children, were killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Union Township, Ohio. The crash happened around 2 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 32 and Coal Dock Road. Investigators said 30-year-old Hannah Howard was driving a Chevrolet Traverse north on Coal Dock Road when she failed to yield at the intersection. The SUV was struck by a tractor-trailer hauling an empty logging trailer. Hannah Howard, 9-year-old Gunner Howard and 5-year-old Peyton Howard were pronounced dead at the scene. According to our CBS affiliate KDKA, a 4-year-old passenger suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was flown to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities did not release the relationship between the victims. KDKA, citing the Ohio State Highway Patrol, reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. State Route 32 was closed for several hours following the crash but has since reopened. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating.
